How can you make a difference?

Purpose for the job: 

The Finance Specialist reports to the Admin and Finance Manager, P4 for general direction and guidance. The Specialist is responsible for providing support to the Admin and Finance Manager in managing, monitoring and overseeing the full range of financial services in support of program and operational activities (i.e. financial planning, disbursements of funds and payments, treasury and accounting, financial analysis and reporting of resources), ensuring compliance of all financial operations with organizational plans, policies, procedures, guidelines, standards of performance, ethics, and integrity. The Finance Specialist will be required to engage in representational roles and functions on behalf of UNICEF, as assigned during the assignment. Additionally, the Specialist will be required to build strong partnerships with internal and external stakeholders, including Banking Institutions and UN Agencies.

Minimum requirements:

Education: 

  • Advance university degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration or equivalent or any other comparable   recognized professional qualification or valid professional certification (CA; CPA; etc.) from an internationally recognized, accredited chartered accountancy institution is required.

Work Experience:

  • A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in financial management or audits in an international organization and/or large corporation is required.
  • A first University Degree in a relevant field combined with 2 additional years of professional experience may be accepted in lieu of an Advanced University Degree.
  • Experience in a UN system agency or organization, some of which served in a developing country is considered as an asset.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Excel required.
  • Demonstrated strong financial analytical capabilities is required, including demonstrated ability to prepare periodic financial reports to inform Senior Management’s decision making.

  • Demonstrated problem solving skills is required.

  • Ability to work independently and demonstrate sound judgement of managing the workload of a team is required.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills is required.

  • Demonstrated ability to build strong partnerships, across internal and external stakeholders, is required.

  • Experience in database packages, web-based management systems and ERP systems (preferably SAP financial modules) is considered as an asset.

  • Experience with IPSAS and/or IFRS is considered as an asset.

  • Demonstrated ability to review effectiveness of financial management workflows/systems, and identify solutions is an asset.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage/lead a team from diverse backgrounds is an asset.

Language Requirements: 

  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of the local language of the duty station is highly desirable. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) is an asset.

Desirables:

Relevant experience at country level, particularly in development, fragile settings and humanitarian contexts.
