Job Description:

The Medical Technologist performs a wide range of complex clinical laboratory tests on blood, body fluids, and tissues that are used by physicians to aid in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. This role requires a high level of technical expertise, analytical judgment, and adherence to strict quality control standards to ensure accurate and reliable patient results.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform high-complexity testing in various disciplines such as Hematology, Coagulation, Chemistry, Immunohematology (Blood Bank), Microbiology, Urinalysis, and Immunology.
  • Execute, document, and monitor quality control procedures. Recognize and resolve outliers and trends by taking appropriate corrective action.
  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain sophisticated laboratory instruments and equipment. Troubleshoot minor instrument issues and perform preventative maintenance.
  • Evaluate test results for accuracy, validity, and clinical significance. Recognize critical values and alert physicians immediately according to established protocols.
  • Accurately enter patient data and test results into the Laboratory Information System (LIS). Retrieve information as needed.
  • Adhere strictly to all laboratory safety protocols, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and regulatory standards set by ISO or other accrediting agencies.
  • Monitor and maintain adequate inventory levels of reagents, supplies, and materials for assigned work area.
  • Work collaboratively with physicians, Patients, lab assistants, and other healthcare professionals to ensure the highest standard of patient care.
  • Participate in proficiency testing programs as directed.

 

Job Requirements:

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related chemical/biological science.
  • Certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) or Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) by Ministry of higher education, or equivalent agency is highly preferred or required.
  • State licensure (if applicable in the state of practice).
  • Previous experience as a Medical Technologist in a clinical laboratory is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of laboratory techniques, principles, and instrumentation.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
  • High level of attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure and in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with computers and laboratory information systems (LIS).
