Job Description:

Main Purpose of the Job   

The Agronomist/Agriculturist Officer will actively engage with targeted communities to promote understanding and support for agricultural-related activities including Farmer Field Schools (FFS), and green houses. The primary responsibility involves mobilizing target communities, building capacity through regular training, mentoring and supporting cash or in-kind assistances to clients. The role aims to facilitate a broader support to the effected communities to enhance their traditional  agriculture practices to broader understanding and practices of climate smart agriculture. The Agronomist/Agriculturist Officer will be responsible for data collection, finding needs, equipping clients with CSA trainings and ensure clients are enabled to utilized the provided support/assistance, along with ensuring any potential risk are addressed and reported on timely manner.

General Responsibilities:

    • Mobilize target communities for active participation in agricultural activities.
    • Conduct regular training and mentorship sessions to enhance clients capacity.
    • Facilitate a broader understanding of agricultural activities such as FFS, and kitchen gardening, green house and agriculture value chain.
    • Collect, analyze, and report on data related to agro-based initiatives.
    • Conduct thorough data collection on agricultural practices and community needs.
    • Organize and deliver technical agricultural-related training sessions and guidance.
    • Ensure that training aligns with the needs and context of the target communities considering the seasonal calendar of the targeted areas.
    • Prepare comprehensive reports on community mobilization, training activities, and project progress.

Specific Responsibilities:

    • Conduct coordination with relevant local authorities, community elders and any other stakeholder to ensure alignment and smooth implementation of the agriculture activities.
    • Develop detailed action plans for agro-based interventions based on seasonal calendar, needs and project design.
    • Develop training plan, context based curriculum, summarization of each day training and IEC materials.
    • Provide technical insights on criteria development and Conduct clients selection assessment to identify the eligible clients.
    • Establishment of FFS centers in the location of identified clients ensuring accessibility, and safety of clients.
    • Train and promote good agriculture practices (GAP) and adapt to emergency and early recovery settings.
    • Ensure equipping clients with understanding of climate-smart agriculture practices, disease management, drip-irrigation management.
    • Conduct regular field monitoring visits and document implementation progress, and report and address any challenges and risks.

Job Requirements:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, Horticulture, Agronomy, or Agriculture Extension.
  2.  2-3  years of progressive work experience in agricultural extension, drip irrigation and climate smart agriculture (CSA) in projects with INGOs, CSOs.
  3. Demonstrated experience in agricultural marketing, business linkages, and delivery of field-level extension activities.
  4. Proven ability to organize and deliver training sessions; training received in related subjects is a plus.
  5. Experience in developing agriculture/horticulture-based training curricula, agriculture value chain, marketing, and business development.
  6. Familiarity with facilitating agricultural extension methodologies, especially Farmers Field School (FFS)
  7. Proficient in spoken and written in English, Pashto, and Dari languages.
  8. Report-writing skills.
