About Youth’s Assembly for Afghanistan Rehabilitation (YAAR):

The Youth’s Assembly for Afghanistan Rehabilitation (YAAR) is a national, non-governmental, and non-profit organization founded in 1994, register no. 157, to deliver humanitarian assistance and support Afghanistan’s long-term recovery. Over the last three decades, YAAR has grown into a capable and community-focused organization with experience working in more than 17 provinces  and implemented multisectoral projects in partnership with UN agencies, INGOs, embassies, and local institutions.

Job Description:

Job Summary:

The Nutrition Officer is responsible for developing and implementing nutrition programs and initiatives aligned with local health priorities and international guidelines. This role includes technical leadership, program monitoring, capacity building, and coordination with health authorities, partners, and communities to improve the nutritional status of vulnerable populations.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Program Development & Implementation:
    • Develop nutrition programs and initiatives in alignment with local health priorities and international standards.
    • Establish Stabilization Centers, Supplementary Feeding Programs, and Outpatient Therapeutic Programs according to national guidelines.
    • Participate in nutrition studies, surveys, and assessments as needed.
  2. Monitoring & Evaluation:
    • Ensure the establishment of nutrition monitoring activities.
    • Analyze nutrition screening data, compile reports, and share findings with the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) and relevant agencies.
    • Support health facilities in implementing referral and surveillance systems for malnutrition.
  3. Capacity Building & Training:
    • Train and support YAAR health facilities staff and partners in the case management of severe and moderate malnutrition per national guidelines.
    • Enhance technical and nutrition management skills of staff through formal and informal training, in conjunction with other coordinators.
    • Train health staff in case detection, referral systems, and community nutrition practices.
  4. Coordination & Stakeholder Engagement:
    • Ensure proper communication, coordination, and harmonization of tools with stakeholders involved in health and nutrition activities.
    • Coordinate and support provincial teams to ensure effective teamwork and achievement of program objectives.
    • Attend nutrition cluster and coordination meetings at local, provincial, and national levels.
    • Represent YAAR’s nutrition programs to local stakeholders, MoPH, international donors, UN agencies, and NGOs as required.
  5. Team Management & Supervision:
    • Manage nutrition staff effectively, including appropriate delegation and supervision of activities.
    • Supervise overall activities of nutrition teams, emphasizing screening and management of acutely malnourished children.
  6. Reporting & Documentation:
    • Submit all relevant activity reports to the line manager and maintain accurate records of program activities.
    • Compile, analyze, and share nutrition data in line with reporting requirements.
  7. Other Duties:
    • Carry out any other duties and responsibilities assigned by the line manager.

Job Requirements:

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Education: MD degree, Bachelor’s degree in nutrition, Dietetics, Public Health, or related field (Master’s preferred).
  • Experience: Minimum 2–5 years in nutrition program management, preferably in humanitarian or public health settings.
  • Skills:
    • Knowledge of national and international nutrition guidelines.
    • Experience with establishment and management of therapeutic feeding programs.
    • Strong analytical, communication, and training skills.
    • Proficiency in monitoring, evaluation, and reporting of nutrition programs.
