Job Description:
Objective
The Mining Engineer is responsible for developing, implementing, and supervising technically sound, economically feasible, and safety- and environmentally-compliant mining plans, while actively participating in ongoing exploration activities. The position serves as a bridge between the exploration and mining phases, preparing extraction plans for raw materials required by the cement plant. In close collaboration with exploration engineers, the Mining Engineer develops practical mine designs, production plans, health and safety systems, and long-term extraction strategies aligned with plant capacity and national and international best practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement open-pit mining designs for limestone and other cement raw materials based on geological data.
- Prepare production plans aligned with the cement plant’s feed requirements and capacity.
- Design practical and executable extraction sequences considering equipment availability and site conditions.
- Prepare Life of Mine (LOM) plans, as well as short-, medium-, and long-term mining plans based on resource estimation models.
- Work closely with exploration teams to integrate geological models, resource estimation data, and exploration results into mine designs.
- Actively participate in pit optimization, final depth determination, and production planning.
- Design and calculate drilling and blasting patterns for open-pit operations.
- Plan and implement overburden removal, bench design, and waste management strategies.
- Develop and enforce mining safety plans, and contribute to Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) systems during extraction.
- Ensure compliance with Afghan mining regulations and international standards.
- Conduct preliminary financial assessments, including CAPEX and OPEX, for mining operations.
- Support feasibility-level studies and prepare technical documentation for mining methods in proposals and reports.
- Utilize modern mining and surveying software, including Surpac, Datamine, MineSight, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, ArcGIS, and other relevant tools.
- Mentor and guide junior engineers to support skill development and professional growth.
- Promote teamwork and adherence to national and international best practices in mining.
Job Requirements:
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering (Master’s degree is an advantage).
- Minimum 4 years of relevant experience in mining and/or exploration activities.
- Proven experience in open-pit mine design, drilling, and blasting.
- Familiarity with mineral exploration workflows and resource estimation procedures.
- Knowledge of Afghan geological conditions is an advantage.
- Proficiency in mining design and calculation software.
- Strong understanding of JORC and NI 43-101 reporting standards and related analysis.
- Experience contributing to LOM plans, MROR processes, and technical studies.
