Job Description:
Purpose of the Position
The Cashier is responsible for managing daily cash transactions, maintaining accurate financial records, and ensuring compliance with GWO financial policies and procedures. The role supports the finance department in safeguarding organizational funds and ensuring efficient cash flow management.
Scope of Work
The Cashier will handle all cash-related transactions of the organization, ensuring proper documentation, recording, and safeguarding of funds. The role includes processing payments, maintaining up-to-date cashbooks, supporting banking activities, and assisting in financial reporting, while strictly adhering to internal controls and financial procedures.
Key Responsibilities
The Cashier will undertake the following duties:
- Receive, count, and securely store cash, cheques, and other financial instruments.
- Process cash payments, advances, and reimbursements in accordance with approved procedures.
- Issue official receipts for all incoming funds and maintain proper documentation.
- Maintain a daily cashbook and ensure all entries are accurate and up to date.
- Prepare daily and weekly cash reports for submission to the Finance Officer.
- Conduct daily cash counts and reconcile balances with records.
- Ensure safe custody of cash and maintain the security of the cash box/safe.
- Assist in bank transactions, including deposits and withdrawals when required.
- Support financial audits by providing necessary documentation and records.
- Ensure compliance with GWO financial policies and donor regulations.
- Maintain confidentiality and integrity in handling financial information.
- The cashier will report directly to the Finance Manager and will work closely with all main office staff, project staff, field officers, and other relevant staff.
- Any other task by senior management.
Job Requirements:
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum of 1–2 years of relevant experience in cash handling or finance roles, preferably with NGOs.
- Strong understanding of basic accounting principles.
- Experience working in Afghanistan’s NGO sector is an asset.
Skills and Competencies
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Strong organizational and record-keeping skills.
- Integrity, honesty, and reliability.
- Basic computer skills, including MS Excel and accounting software.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Good communication skills (Dari/Pashto required; English is an advantage).
