Tdh has been working in Afghanistan since 1995 and carry out projects related to Child Protection, Mother and Child health and Livelihood Programs in Kabul, Balkh, Kunar and Nangarhar provinces.

 

Job Description:

Job Summary :

Under the direct supervision of the Project Officer, the Social Worker adopts an ethical and professional approach to support vulnerable children and their families. The role focuses on empowering communities to actively participate in their own development while strengthening social ties and solidarity within their environment.

Main responsibilities:

  • Conduct outreach activities for the identification of vulnerable children and their families’ specific needs either to provide direct support or refer to other service providers.

  • Carrying out protection activities within the working area with the beneficiaries.

  • Arrange and facilitate regular coordination meetings with community elders, shuras, and other community-based committees to ensure effective engagement, information sharing, and collaborative decision-making.

  • Establishing good working relations with other aid agencies and the authorities in the working area.

  • Regular collection of information regarding case studies and success stories and highlight the positive changes.

  • Maintaining good relationships with community people and be aware of cultural and traditional values and norms of relevant communities.

  • Referral of eligible families to specialized services/external service providers.

  • Identification of the eligible families with protection needs (shelter, livelihood, sanitation, food etc) to provide them with direct support or refer them to other services providers.

  • Report on a weekly basis to the Line manager on the progress of Project activities.

  • Data collection and maintenance of records on the children database and shared with Data clerk.

  • Provide case management support to children who are at risk of child protection concerns.

  • Perform any other relevant tasks assigned by line supervisor

Job Requirements:

Education :

Bachelor’s degree in social science or related field.

Experience / Skills :

At least three years’ work experience in the same field.

  • knowledge of health, psychosocial support, and basic mental health concepts

  • Understanding of child protection, safeguarding, and protection principles (e.g., CPiE, PSEA)

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills with patients and communities

  • Case management skills (assessment, planning, referral, and follow-up)

  • Ability to work with vulnerable groups (IDPs, returnees, women, and children)

  • Cultural sensitivity and respect for local traditions

  • Problem-solving and decision-making skills

  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines

  • Basic training and facilitation skills for awareness sessions

  • Teamwork and collaboration skills

Languages:

Strong and effective oral and written communication skills in local languages.
