Job Description:

Overall Responsibilities:

Safeguarding officer is responsible for implementing and overseeing safeguarding measures to ensure a safe and inclusive environment for all staff and beneficiaries. This role involves training and supporting staff in safeguarding practices, managing cases and reporting mechanisms, and acting as the focal point for safeguarding concerns. The incumbent will collaborate with key departments to integrate safeguarding into all project activities, maintain compliance with local and international standards, and promote a culture of accountability and respect throughout AWUDO.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure safeguarding principles are taken into account during following activities:
    •  CCC establishment & Operationalization
    • CBCPC establishment and working
    • Case management, using CPIMS+ and referral pathway
    • Service mapping, outreach and capacity building programs
    • Community dialogues and positive parenting sessions
  • Implement and monitor AWUDO safeguarding policies across project activities.
  • Ensure safeguarding measures meet local and international humanitarian standards.
  • Conduct regular training sessions on safeguarding for all staff.
  • Develop training materials tailored to the needs of the teams and specific project context.
  • Mentor and guide staff to maintain best practices in safeguarding.
  • Manage PSEA and safeguarding cases, ensuring confidentiality and adherence to appropriate procedures.
  • Develop and maintain clear reporting mechanisms for safeguarding concerns.
  • Respond promptly to reports and incidents, ensuring they are handled effectively and sensitively.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for safeguarding issues and coordinate with relevant committees and external partners.
  • Establish and oversee safeguarding committees within the organization.
  • Raise awareness among the community and project beneficiaries about safeguarding measures and reporting procedures.
  • Promote participation and accountability within the affected population.
  • Work with the Program Manager, Project Manager, and MEAL Manager to integrate safeguarding into monitoring and evaluation frameworks.
  • Prepare regular reports on safeguarding activities, improvements, and challenges for senior management.
  • Develop communication strategies to promote a culture of safety and accountability.
  • Identify gaps in current safeguarding practices and recommend solutions for improvement.
  • Any other tasks assigned by his/her direct supervisor and relevant to the scope of the position.

Job Requirements:

Background/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in social science (BBA, LLB, Economics, Social work, international law or related field, a Master’s degree holder is preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in Safeguarding and protection program with a National/International NGO or UN organization.
  • Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of safeguarding role, child protection in emergencies, GBV prevention, and child rights.

Note: Applicants from and/or living in Kunar province, will be prioritized.

Skills Required:

  • Fluency in English (spoken and written).
  • Fluency in local languages, Pashto (spoken and written).
  • Advanced computer skills (MS Word, MS Excel, Outlook).
  • Strong communication and reporting skills.
