About Afghan Amputee Bicyclists for Rehabilitation And Recreation (AABRAR):

AABRAR is a local Afghan non-government organization concerned with the rehabilitation and socioeconomic integration of disabled people and other vulnerable groups into the community.

Founded in 1992, AABRAR began a bicycle-training program for amputees to improve mobility and increase their independence, enabling them to travel to and from work, and save on transportations costs. Since then, AABRAR has expanded its activities  to  offer  a  range  of  services  to  vulnerable  people,  designing  special programs for women and children to address their needs. Programs include physiotherapy and health care, bicycle training, vocational trainings, numeracy and literacy classes, mine awareness, Education, health education, Livelihood, WASH and various sporting activities. AABRAR also works in the area of social development, helping to raise awareness of the rights of disabled people within Afghanistan and dispel negative attitudes towards disability.

AABRAR has widened its beneficiary classification to include other vulnerable groups such as widows, orphans, unemployed people, youth, ex-combatants, and street children, so as to reach those people most in need of assistance. Since 1992 AABRAR has helped over 15,000 people recover physically and emotionally from their injuries and increased their socioeconomic participation.

Job Description:

​​​​​​​This skills development initiative will support English language instruction for the staff and management of Rabia Balkhi and Malalai Maternity Hospitals – Including provision of courses at each of Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced levels, targeted to all members of clinical, technical, professional and operational roles within the mentioned facilities.

  • Develop and deliver English language training and materials suitable to AABRAR's skills development initiative for key partners, ensuring alignment with AABRAR goals and objectives (a. English language competencies, b. Communication self-confidence).
  • Orient management teams of facility partners and participants (learners) to the instructional processes and expected results, focusing on development of reading, writing, speaking, and comprehension of English language.
  • Conduct individual needs assessments to identify (or verify) suitable placement of participants within instructional sessions (Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced).
  • Facilitate out-of-classroom learning to promote development of English language competencies and communication self-confidence of course participants.
  • Continuously coordinate among AABRAR project management and facility management at the project sites to design and implement training and evaluation mechanisms that support effectiveness of the initiative.
  • Continuously update training materials, content, and instructional approaches to reflect best practices and address emerging needs within the AABRAR initiative.
  • Monitor the performance and progress of individual participants, offering constructive feedback and guidance for improvement, including advancement to new levels of the course.
  • Maintain accurate records of training activities and participant achievements in line with AABRAR's monitoring and evaluation requirements and guidance from the AABRAR MEAL Team.
  • Ensure that instructional activities adhere to established guidelines and standards related to education and training.
  • Any other assignments pertaining to the skills development initiative as directed by the AABRAR Focal Point.

Job Requirements:

  • Five years of experience (minimum) in English language instruction.
  • Master’s degree in English or Education.
  • Understanding of cultural diversity and cultural diversity competence.
  • Familiarity with Health Sector and medical services.
  • Have proficiency in computer programs, especially Microsoft office, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft power point.
