Razi Social Development Organization- RSDO is an Afghan NGO founded in April 11, 2008 and registered with Ministry of Economy in Afghanistan. It was established in Herat city but then sat up sub-offices in Ghor, Badghis and Farah provinces by delivering the social development services to vulnerable and marginalized people in the remote communities.

RSDO firstly initiated the primary activities in 2002 under the name of “Abu Hanifeh Orphan High School”, assisting orphan children who lost their parents and families during the long-lasting war in Afghanistan to learn and build their future. Later on, with the financial support of Japan Embassy it has constructed a high school building for the orphan and expanded the activities of orphan with the support of HELP Germany as well. Throughout years of hard working, RSDO slowly developed and now has functioning offices in all west zone provinces of Afghanistan with more than 200 staff.

RSDO’s mandate is delivering the humanitarian assistance to the vulnerable households in the west zone provinces of Afghanistan through the financial support of UN and International Organizations.

Job Description:

 Job Purpose

The child protection specialist, reporting to the project manager, is responsible for safeguarding children from abuse, neglect and exploitation, and ensuring their overall- well being within the project in targeted project locations. This is a technical role position with non-supervision role only overseeing the project implementation on technical perspective and in line- with project manager, provide technical guidance and support to the child protection teams including CCCs, case management, social workers and facilitators. The role to ensure the quality services for children across all project and align the works with technical SOPs.

Further, the child protection specialist will work on developing SOPs/ or adjust child protection SOPs for quality implementation. The priority is given to the candidates with high technical competencies in child protection particularly.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assess child safety risks: the applicant shall investigate report of abuse, neglect or exploitation and evaluates the child’s environment. Further, technical specialist will travel to the locations and ensure that spaces are set up as per the child protection principles/ SOPs or adjust properly
  • Develop/Implementation of Child Protection SOPs: the specialist is responsible for developing SOPs or adjust as per the requirements of the donor. Further , S/he contributes for implementation of SOPs across the project components in all targeted locations
  • Ensure Technical child protection principles are trained for staff and applied in the field: the specialist acts as the technical person who ensure that principles are applied across the components and staff are well-oriented on issues around child protection issues.
  • Work with families and communities: the specialist is responsible for provision of guidance, counseling and referrals and support to improve caregiving conditions to the participants or people of concerns in targeted locations.
  • Reporting on technical oversees: the specialist is responsible for weekly update and monthly reporting to the project manager on technical oversees observed and recommendation for way forward in the field
  • Representation in meetings with leading partner and donor: the specialist is responsible to participate in meetings with leading partner, consortium partners and donor to represent RSDO on technical perspectives overserved, ongoing or planned
  • Technical inputs on case management in coordination with case management supervisor: the specialist is responsible to provide technical inputs in coordination with case management supervisor on issues of case management in the field and ensure address/ technical feedback to the team through case management supervisor
  • Child Protection in Emergency set up: the specialist may proactively act to ensure children are protected in crisis or emergency situations including disasters or floods may happen and do advocate for support or even referral in coordination with manager and relevant supervisors.
  • Overall field and stakeholders meetings: the specialist will continue participating in meetings with stakeholders and communities on issues of child protection and provide necessary feedback
  • Excellent computer skills.

Job Requirements:

Experience and mandatory criteria:

  • University degree in Social Science (Psychology, Theology, Law, Education, literature, and sociology).
  • A total of 5-6  years of professional experience in protection programming, encompassing child protection and general protection, with extensive expertise in technical supervision and the development and implementation of SOPs.
  • Strong knowledge of field and targeted locations
  • Excellent English language skills.
  • Fluent in national languages, Pashto and Dari.
  • Excellent computer skills.
