Job Description:
The Head Teller at Bank-e-Millie Afghan (BMA) is responsible for managing and safeguarding the branch's cash resources. Under the direct supervision of the Branch Manager, the Head Teller serves as the custodian of the vault key, maintains cash balances, and ensures accurate financial transactions. This role also involves supervising the branch tellers, fostering a productive and compliant work environment while delivering excellent customer service.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Cash Management:
- Oversee the daily cash operations of the branch, ensuring the efficient and accurate processing of all cash transactions.
- Maintain optimal cash levels within the branch by monitoring cash flow and making necessary adjustments.
- Vault Custodianship
- Act as the primary custodian of the vault key, ensuring its security and access is strictly controlled.
- Conduct regular cash checking of the vault and cash drawers to ensure security and compliance with internal policies and procedures.
- Supervision of Tellers
- Supervise, train, and mentor branch tellers, providing guidance on cash handling procedures and customer service best practices.
- Monitor teller performance, ensuring adherence to banking policies and procedures.
- Transaction Processing
- Assist tellers with cash transactions during peak periods and handle complex transactions or issues as needed.
- Ensure that all cash transactions are processed accurately and in compliance with bank policies and procedures.
- Customer Service
- Provide exemplary customer service, addressing customer inquiries and resolving issues related to cash transactions and account services.
- Promote a customer-friendly atmosphere within the branch, encouraging tellers to prioritize customer satisfaction.
- Compliance and Reporting
- Ensure compliance with banking policies, circulars, internal controls, and procedures regarding cash management.
- Prepare and submit daily, reports on cash transactions, variances, and other appropriate metrics to the Branch Manager.
- Cash Checking and Reconciliations
- Conduct daily cash reconciliations, ensuring that discrepancies are addressed and resolved promptly.
- Report any cash shortages or overages to the Branch Manager immediately.
- Team Collaboration
- Collaborate with the Branch Manager and other team members to enhance branch performance and service delivery.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to strategies aimed at improving operational efficiency.
- Process Improvement
- Identify and recommend process enhancements related to cash handling and branch operations to improve service delivery and efficiency.
- Punctuality. (Follow official working time schedule properly).
- Behave in a professional way with all the colleagues and customers of the branch.
- Any other task assigned by Line Manager or will be assigned other duties and responsibilities as may be required to meet the goals and objectives of the bank.
Job Requirements:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Economics, banking and finance and master’s degree is preferred.
Experience: Previous experience at least 2 years in a cash management role within a commercial bank, particularly in a supervisory capacity.
Skills and Competencies:
- Strong understanding of cash handling procedures, banking regulations, and compliance requirements
- Ability to handle sensitive information with integrity and confidentiality.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills in Dari, Pashto, & English; ability to communicate effectively with diverse customers.
- Interpersonal Skills: Strong interpersonal skills with a customer-oriented attitude; ability to establish rapport and trust with customers.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in using banking software and Microsoft Office Suite; ability to learn new systems quickly.
- Problem-Solving: Strong analytical skills with the ability to resolve issues efficiently and effectively.
- Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment while also being self-motivated.
