Capacity Strengthening and Organization Development

Capacity Development Department

ACBAR and its members have long been dedicated to improving the quality and effectiveness of humanitarian activities. A key challenge that continues to affect the performance of NGOs is the limited capacity of staff, particularly at the provincial level. In response, ACBAR has proactively developed comprehensive training modules and is implementing targeted capacity-building initiatives across Afghanistan to strengthen skills and enhance organizational impact.

Training Overview – 2025

Specialized training is a key to capacity building and organization development employed by ACBAR. ACBAR recognizes the critical importance of training in the overall capacity development of national Non-Governmental Organizations (NNGOs) and staff members of INGO members, enhancing their effectiveness and sustainability in delivering quality humanitarian assistance.  This is accomplished through routine training support to our members, targeted ad-hoc training workshops to various technical groups within our ACBAR membership, and longer-term training programs (18-24 months) that support smaller organizations to access more program and funding opportunities to contribute to the success of Afghanistan’s future growth and development.

In the year 2025, ACBAR launched a pivotal training program aimed at enhancing the institutional, technical, and strategic capacities of humanitarian and development organizations throughout Afghanistan. Engaging 451 participants from both national and international NGOs across seven regions, including Kabul, the program featured targeted sessions in Advocacy and Engagement, Report Writing, Policy Development, Fundraising and donor relations, Strategic Planning and strategic management, AAP & CFRM, and Gender-Sensitive Humanitarian Action. With a robust emphasis on national capacity strengthening and gender inclusion, ACBAR delivered a total of 25 training days, significantly boosting the organizational effectiveness, accountability, and sustainability of partner and members organizations.

ACBAR is committed to enhancing the capacity of its staff by focusing on essential training programs. Recently, we conducted specialized sessions on organizational behavior, as well as training on anti-fraud, anti-corruption, and conflict of interest. These initiatives aim to equip our team with the necessary skills and knowledge to uphold ethical standards and foster a positive organizational culture, ultimately strengthening our overall effectiveness and integrity.

Way Forward for ACBAR Training Department for the year 2026

ACBAR plans to strengthen its Training Department by developing tailored training materials and curriculum that meet the specific needs of our members at both national and sub-national levels.

We will also conduct more frequent training sessions to promote continuous learning and skill enhancement. To support these efforts, establishing a training center in Kabul is crucial, allowing us to increase staffing capacity and provide essential resources. These initiatives will empower our members and enhance their effectiveness in their roles.
