Request For Graphic Designer/Media company for the year of 2023 – Retainer contract
The Aga Khan Foundation, Afghanistan (AKF (Afg)) is an agency of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), a group of international, private, non-denominational development agencies working to improve living conditions and opportunities for people in some of the poorest parts of the developing world. The Network’s organizations have individual mandates that range from the fields of health and education to architecture, rural development and promotion of private-sector enterprise and institutions that seek to empower communities and individuals, usually in disadvantaged circumstances, to improve living conditions and opportunities.
The Aga Khan Foundation (AKF) is a non-denominational international development agency established in 1967 by His Highness the Aga Khan. Its mission is to develop and promote creative solutions to problems that impede social development, primarily in Asia and East Africa. Created as a private, non-profit foundation under Swiss law, it has branches and independent affiliates in 19 countries.
AKF seeks to provide sustainable solutions to long-term problems of poverty, hunger, illiteracy, and ill health. In Afghanistan, AKF works with rural communities in mountainous, remote or resource poor areas to improve quality of life in the areas of natural resource management, market development, governance, education, and health.
- Project Background
Accelerate Prosperity Afghanistan
Accelerate Prosperity (AP) was launched by Aga Khan Development Network as a joint initiative of the Aga Khan Foundation (AKF) and the Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development’s Industrial Promotion Services (AKFED IPS) in 2016. It was established in Pakistan and Tajikistan in 2016 and subsequently in Kyrgyzstan in 2018. AP Afghanistan establishment in 2021. AP’s mandate is to facilitate the creation of sustainable and commercially viable small and growing businesses in emerging markets. AP Afghanistan provides the following services for startups and SMEs; these programs are run on a cohort basis in-person.
Business Incubation: This program is designed to help startups launch their products and services, the program includes tailored ideation, business training, advice, mentorship and coaching on business modelling, marketing, financial modelling, pitch making etc.
Business Acceleration: This program is designed to help the small and growing businesses with growth potential to scale up their operations and or launch new products and enter a new market. The program comprises of tailored business training and advice on growth, investment readiness, business planning, management, governance and scaling strategies.
Business Financing: AP Afghanistan provides financing facilities for growth potential and scalable businesses which can increase the job creation and economic growth in the market. The financing is in the form of patient financing and investment up to AFN 4.5 million (and up to AFN 45 million in special cases) and for up to 10 years on discount rates. Debt, equity and quasi-equity instruments are used for deployment.
- Rationale
AP Afghanistan provides advisory and mentorship training to startups and SMEs mainly in Kabul and Badakhshan through trainers, mentors, SMEs. For pipeline development and outreach activities, AP Afghanistan needs designing and development of marketing materials, as well as reporting documents for internal and external stakeholders with knowledge products such as photos and videos of program kick-off, implementation, and closure.
Currently AP Afghanistan is outsourcing the design and printing of marketing materials and knowledge products, which is costly and time consuming, due to the service providers have other customers as well. At the same time, each type it has to go through a procurement process. Therefore, having a dedicated contracted consultant for designing and developing the marketing and reporting materials, will not only saves the cost of designing but also will be implemented within specific delivery time, and is mandatory.
- Scope of work / Overall objective
The graphic designer consultant will be mainly responsible for designing and developing all marketing related materials and knowledge products required for internal and external stakeholders. The graphic designer consultant will be closely working with pipeline development and investment team to gather the requirements of the marketing and reporting materials as well as develop knowledge products from each cohort.
The consultant/company will be selected for the year of 2023 on a retainer basis and will be reached out for each assignment separately.

Kabul and Badakhshan.

Following is the key deliverables which may be on-site photos, video shoots including designing, developing and producing knowledge products for AP Afghanistan such as:
- Photos (on-site)
- Videos (on and off-site)
- Infographics (off-site)
- Newsletters templates (off-site)
- Banners (off-site)
- Animations (off-site)
- Qualifications Required
- A media/marketing company or professional with at least 2 years of experience with reputed international organizations.
- Fully equipped with equipment and software required for designing and developing of marketing materials and knowledge products.
- Strong and professional command on using of Photoshop, Corel Draw, Video Editing, PDF creator, photo shooting, animation developing and infographics.
- Experience in digital marketing is a plus point.
- Can travel within Afghanistan where program requires.
