Request For LNGB- Professional Project Pictures and videos
The Aga Khan Foundation, Afghanistan (AKF (Afg)) is an agency of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), a group of international, private, non-denominational development agencies working to improve living conditions and opportunities for people in some of the poorest parts of the developing world. The Network’s organizations have individual mandates that range from the fields of health and education to architecture, rural development and promotion of private-sector enterprise and institutions that seek to empower communities and individuals, usually in disadvantaged circumstances, to improve living conditions and opportunities.
The Aga Khan Foundation (AKF) is a non-denominational international development agency established in 1967 by His Highness the Aga Khan. Its mission is to develop and promote creative solutions to problems that impede social development, primarily in Asia and East Africa. Created as a private, non-profit foundation under Swiss law, it has branches and independent affiliates in 19 countries.
AKF seeks to provide sustainable solutions to long-term problems of poverty, hunger, illiteracy, and ill health. In Afghanistan, AKF works with rural communities in mountainous, remote or resource poor areas to improve quality of life in the areas of natural resource management, market development, governance, education, and health.
1. Rationale
The Leave No Girls Behind Plus project aims to empower an extremely marginalized group of out-of-school girls in Afghanistan. Through the Accelerated Learning Programme (ALP) classes, the project enables 5,000 girls to complete a full cycle of primary education and transition to further opportunities. The graduates acquire essential literacy, numeracy, and 21st-century leadership skills, equipping them to envision and pursue future pathways, make informed decisions, and contribute to their communities and society.
This short-term assignment aims to produce high-quality photos for use in the communications brief currently in production with AKF (UK) Communications team, and who have requested high resolution professional pictures to substitute those submitted. The brief, being published as part of the closure learning documents, will be used to demonstrate LNGB impact at events and on social media platforms.
2. Project Background
LNGB ALP focused specifically on girls who had never attended school and were beyond the age of regular school enrollment (7-10 years old). By implementing a comprehensive "fast track" cycle of primary education within their communities, ALP bridged the educational gap and brought targeted girls to the same level as their peers. The program prepared them to transition into secondary school or pursue alternative pathways, such as technical and vocational education and training (TVET) or employment. Notably, ALP showed promising results, with 80% of graduates successfully transitioning to secondary school.
The project aimed to reach the most marginalized girls, providing them with an inclusive, child-friendly, and safe learning experience. Through community needs assessment surveys, close coordination with local education authorities, and collaboration with Disabled People's Organizations (DPOs), the project identified the most vulnerable communities and prioritized the education of adolescent girls, including those with disabilities. Intensive community sensitization and mobilization efforts were undertaken to garner support for girls' education.
