Request For Short term Assignment for Financial Management Mentor and Consultant

1.    Project Background

Accelerate Prosperity Afghanistan:
Accelerate Prosperity (AP) was launched by Aga Khan Development Network as a joint initiative of the Aga Khan Foundation (AKF) and the Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development’s Industrial Promotion Services (AKFED IPS) in 2016. It was established in Pakistan and Tajikistan in 2016 and subsequently in Kyrgyzstan in 2018. AP Afghanistan establishment in 2021. AP’s mandate is to facilitate the creation of sustainable and commercially viable small and growing businesses in emerging markets. AP Afghanistan provides the following services for startups and SMEs; these programs are run on a cohort basis in-person.

Business Incubation:
This program is designed to help startups launch their products and services, the program includes tailored ideation, business training, advice, mentorship and coaching on business modelling, marketing, financial modelling, pitch making and etc.

Business Acceleration:
This program is designed to help the small and growing businesses with growth potential to scale up their operations and or launch new products and enter a new market. The program comprises tailored business training and advice on growth, investment readiness, business planning, management, governance and scaling strategies.
 
Business Financing:
AP Afghanistan provides financing facilities for growth potential and scalable businesses which can increase the job creation and economic growth in the market. The financing is in the form of patient financing and investment up to AFN 4.5 million (and up to AFN 45 million in special cases) and for up to 10 years on discount rates. Debt, equity and quasi-equity instruments are used for deployment.


2.    Rationale
AP Afghanistan currently provides advisory and mentorship training to startups and SMEs mainly in Kabul and Badakhshan through internal business trainers and coaches. In order to provide high quality financial management mentoring including bookkeeping and financial reporting.
This financial management mentoring will improve the bookkeeping and financial literacy skills of the entrepreneurs including financial reporting using accounting software.

3.    Scope of work
The financial management mentor will be mainly responsible for mentoring entrepreneurs on bookkeeping and financial literacy skills which will ultimately result in understanding the entrepreneurs of development of financial model.
The objectives of this mentoring shall be the entrepreneurs learning and application ability of the bookkeeping and financial reporting using a digital accounting/finance platform.

4.    Work Location (s)
Kabul / Badakhshan

5.    Key Deliverables
Following is the key deliverable of this mentoring program:
•    Mentoring on bookkeeping of financial records in a digital platform.
•    Financial management and financial model.

6.    Methodology
The mentor will be reached out for each assignment separately and the mentor will be providing the services based on need, on-site visits and off-site services.

7.    Qualifications Required
•    A financial/accounting firm or professional with at least 3 years of experience with reputed international organizations.
•    Fully equipped with equipment and software required for mentoring of bookkeeping.
•    Experience in professional financial management and mentoring.
•    Can travel within Afghanistan where program requires.

8.    Timeline / Work Plan
     15-August-2023 to 31-Dec-2023, with possibility to extend.
