Request For Recovery from Earthquake in Zenda Jan District of Herat Province (Food Package)

2.  Project Summary

The earthquake that struck Herat province in October has left a devastating impact on the region. The earthquake, measuring 6.4 on the Richter scale, has caused significant damage to infrastructure, homes, and public services. As a result, the affected communities are facing a severe shortage of drinking water, source of livelihoods, protection, and food.
According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA), the earthquake has affected more than 70,000 people in Herat province. The disaster has caused significant damage to the agricultural sector, which is the primary source of livelihood for many people in the region. The loss of crops and livestock has left many families without a source of income, making it difficult for them to access basic necessities such as food and water

Furthermore, the earthquake has damaged many water supply systems, leaving communities without access to safe drinking water. This has led to an increase in waterborne diseases, which further exacerbates the health situation in the region.
The situation requires urgent attention from the international community to provide essential assistance to those affected by the disaster.
