Job Summary

The Surgeon Specialist is responsible for providing specialized surgical care, assessing and diagnosing patients requiring surgical intervention, performing appropriate surgical procedures, and managing pre- and post-operative care. The specialist ensures patient safety, follows clinical guidelines and infection prevention standards, supervises surgical procedures, manages complications, and provides clinical guidance to medical and surgical staff. The role also includes maintaining accurate patient records, supporting clinical case reviews, mentoring junior staff, coordinating referrals for complex cases, and ensuring the availability and proper use of surgical equipment and supplies.

Duties & Responsiblity:

  • Provide specialized surgical consultation, diagnosis, and treatment.
  • Conduct pre-operative assessment and determine appropriate surgical interventions.
  • Perform surgical procedures safely and according to approved clinical standards.
  • Provide post-operative care and monitor patients’ recovery.
  • Manage surgical emergencies and complications.
  • Ensure proper infection prevention and control during surgical procedures.
  • Maintain accurate and complete patient medical records and surgical documentation.
  • Monitor and ensure proper use of surgical equipment, instruments, and supplies.
  • Provide clinical guidance and mentorship to doctors, nurses, and other clinical staff.
  • Participate in clinical meetings, case reviews, and quality improvement activities.
  • Ensure appropriate referral of complicated cases to higher-level facilities.
  • Support adherence to national clinical guidelines and applicable WHO standards.
  • Monitor surgical outcomes and identify areas for improvement.
  • Ensure patient safety, confidentiality, and respectful treatment.
  • Prepare and submit required clinical and surgical reports to management.

Job Requirements

  • Medical degree (MD) from a recognized medical institution.
  • Specialist qualification in General Surgery or a relevant surgical specialty.
  • Valid professional license/registration from the relevant health authority.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of relevant clinical and surgical experience.
  • Proven experience in performing common surgical procedures and managing surgical emergencies.
  • Strong knowledge of clinical guidelines, infection prevention, and patient safety standards.
  • Experience working in hospitals, preferably in humanitarian or public health programs.
  • Good skills in patient assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and post-operative care.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and in challenging field conditions.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, leadership, and clinical decision-making skills.
  • Ability to maintain accurate medical records and prepare clinical reports.
  • Commitment to professional ethics, confidentiality, and quality patient care
