Provision of Medicines for Helmand Province
THE WELFARE ASSOCIATION FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF AFGHANISTAN (WADAN)
Procurement Details
The Welfare Association for the Development of Afghanistan (WADAN), in partnership with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), has been implementing an integrated drug demand reduction program in Helmand Province to provide evidence-based treatment, rehabilitation, and prevention services for individuals affected by drug use.
Through the UNODC-funded project, critical support has been provided to address key resource gaps at the Helmand Drug Treatment Center (DTC). This support includes staff incentives, food for patients, essential medicines, laboratory equipment and reagents, renovation of the treatment facility, installation of a small solar photovoltaic (PV) system, information technology (IT) equipment, and furniture. These interventions have significantly strengthened the center's operational capacity and improved the quality of services provided to beneficiaries.
Since mid-February 2025, with financial support from the European Union, UNODC has further expanded assistance to the Helmand DTC by establishing two Mobile Outreach Teams (MOTs) and a Vocational Skills Training (VST) Center, implemented by WADAN. These initiatives aim to improve access to community-based prevention and treatment services while supporting the social and economic reintegration of people recovering from substance use disorders through vocational training and livelihood opportunities.
