Job Summary

We are inviting CVs for the position of GIS and Environmental Specialist for an integrated livelihoods, forestry, and rangeland management program across Badakhshan and Kunar. The role will produce the spatial evidence base that guides site selection, intervention design, and progress verification. The specialist will carry out GPS-tagged mapping of intervention sites, prepare spatial layers for forestry, rangeland, and livelihood activities, and conduct environmental screening to flag risks and safeguard requirements. The role will support rapid ecological assessment, degradation mapping, and the production of clear maps and figures for technical packages and reports. The specialist will work closely with the field team to ground-truth data and to maintain a verifiable geographic record of all activities. Accuracy, strong data management, and the ability to turn field data into decision-ready products will be central to this position.

 

Job Requirements

Candidates must hold a minimum of a bachelor's degree in GIS, environmental science, or a related discipline. A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in GIS mapping and environmental assessment is required. Applicants must show practical experience in spatial analysis, environmental screening, and site selection. Proficiency with standard GIS software, GPS data collection, and the production of maps and spatial datasets is expected. Experience supporting field teams in remote and difficult terrain is an advantage. Fluency in Pashto and Dari is required, and proficiency in oral and written English is required. Candidates should be precise, well organized, and able to deliver reliable spatial products on short timelines while maintaining clear documentation suitable for technical review and verification.
