WDIO Background:

Watan Development and Initiative Organization is a non-governmental, nonprofit, non-partisan, and independent organization dedicated to empowering and uplifting communities through sustainable development, promoting social justice, and enhancing the well-being of individuals and families. WDIO is committed to applying a ‘zero tolerance’ policy towards acts of sexual exploitation and abuse by its personnel. In 2003, the United Nations Secretary-General issued a bulletin on “Special measures for protection from sexual exploitation and sexual abuse” (ST/SGB/2003/13) (“the Bulletin”). To support the system-wide implementation of the zero-tolerance policy, the Director-General has adopted the standards of conduct and provisions on PSEA set by the Bulletin, adjusted as necessary, to be applied by WDIO personnel, as follows.

Job Summary

The Chemistry Libran or Chemistry Laboratory Technician is responsible for supporting the effective delivery of chemistry practical lessons in formal school. The role involves preparing laboratory materials, maintaining equipment, ensuring safety standards, and assisting teachers and students during practical sessions.

The position reports to the School Principal & Head of Science Department.

Duties and Responsibilities:

·       Prepare chemicals, reagents, and solutions for laboratory experiments.

·       Set up laboratory equipment and apparatuses before practical classes.

·       Assist teachers during chemistry demonstrations and student experiments.

·       Maintain laboratory inventory, including chemicals, glassware, and instruments.

·       Ensure proper labeling, storage, and safe handling of chemicals.

·       Clean, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment regularly.

·       Ensure compliance with laboratory safety rules and procedures.

·       Dispose of hazardous waste according to safety guidelines.

·       Support supervision of students during laboratory activities.

·       Maintain records of laboratory usage, stock, and maintenance.

·       Report damaged equipment and request replacements or repairs.

·       Ensure availability of first-aid kits and safety equipment in the lab.

·       Any other duties assigned by school management.

Job Requirements:

Required Qualifications and Experience:

·       Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Chemistry, Laboratory Technology, or related science field.

·       1–3 years of experience working in a school or laboratory environment preferred.

·       Advanced knowledge of chemical handling and laboratory procedures.

·       Experience in schools’ science laboratories is an advantage.

Required Abilities/Skills:

·       Strong knowledge of chemistry laboratory techniques.

·       Ability to handle chemicals safely and responsibly.

·       Good laboratory organization and inventory management skills.

·       Attention to detail and accuracy in preparation of experiments.

·       Basic understanding of laboratory safety and risk management.

·       Ability to support teachers and guide students in practical work.

·       Strong teamwork and communication skills.

·       Ability to maintain cleanliness and discipline in the laboratory.
