Job Description:

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

 Below are the main duties and responsibilities of the Pharmacy Manager:

  • Lead the design, planning, and continuous monitoring of pharmacy operations within IMC’s designated areas of intervention.
  • Provide support and guidance to pharmacy staff in the formulation and implementation of detailed monthly and annual operational plans.
  • Supervise and mentor the pharmacy technical teams at both central headquarters and provincial offices to ensure quality service delivery.
  • Actively represent IMC in meetings, workshops, and discussions with donors, government bodies, and other key stakeholders concerning pharmaceutical matters.
  • Collaborate with the line manager in drafting and reviewing proposals to secure funding for pharmaceutical and health-related initiatives.
  • Deliver practical, on-the-job training for pharmacy staff on best practices, including FEFO (First Expiry First Out), FIFO (First In First Out), MDS (Minimum Data Set), and RUD (Rational Use of Drugs).
  • Conduct regular supervisory visits to provincial offices, health facilities, and warehouse storage sites to monitor pharmacy activities and stock management.
  • Review, analyze, and provide feedback on pharmacy supply requests and medicine consumption reports to ensure efficiency and accuracy.
  • Oversee the maintenance of comprehensive and up-to-date records for the pharmacy department at the central level, while ensuring the same documentation practices are enforced across provincial offices.
  • Perform supervisory visits to health facilities at least once per month to assess pharmaceutical service standards and provide technical support.
  • Take overall responsibility for planning, coordinating, and implementing pharmaceutical activities in alignment with IMC’s objectives.
  • Work closely with the logistics department to manage the handover of medicines and medical equipment, ensuring all items are accounted for and meet quality standards.
  • Organize and facilitate capacity-building sessions for pharmacists at provincial and facility levels to strengthen pharmaceutical management.
  • Identify operational challenges that hinder effective pharmaceutical service delivery and promptly report them with recommendations for resolution.
  • Ensure the availability of first aid kits for office use and emergency medical kits for vehicles assigned to field operations.
  • Monitor and verify that medicines are organized and distributed according to their expiry dates to minimize waste and ensure patient safety.
  • Ensure all medicines and medical equipment are stored securely, hygienically, and in accordance with safety standards at both central and provincial warehouse facilities.
  • Represent IMC in coordination forums and technical meetings related to pharmaceutical services convened by the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) and other partners.
  • Prepare detailed monthly reports on pharmacy activities, highlighting progress, challenges, and recommendations, and submit these to the line manager in a timely manner.

Job Requirements:

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in pharmacy
  2. Experience in quality assurance activities in pharmaceutical procurement would be an added advantage. 

Experience:

  • At least 5 years of professional experience.

Competency :

  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team.
  • Experience in managing pharmaceuticals in humanitarian context (EPHS, BPHS,)
  • Conversant with Health Information Management Systems
  • The candidate must have strong command in English, Dari/Pashto Languages.
  • Computer skills: Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
