Job Description:

Purpose of the Position:

The Trainer (Maintenance & Troubleshooting of Solar System) will deliver technical, hands-on training sessions to women greenhouse beneficiaries on operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting solar-powered systems, ensuring their effective and safe use for greenhouse management and irrigation.

Key Responsibilities:

    • Conduct three (3) structured, hands-on training sessions for 45 women beneficiaries across 15 greenhouse sites.
    • Topics include:
      • Solar-powered irrigation and lighting system components and functions.
      • Routine maintenance (cleaning panels, checking batteries, inspecting connections).
      • Troubleshooting common issues (voltage fluctuations, water pump issues, connectivity errors).
      • Safety measures while handling solar system components.
    • Utilize demonstrations and practical exercises tailored for low-literacy contexts.
    • Develop illustrated, user-friendly manuals and quick reference guides in Dari and Pashto, aligned with the installed system specifications.
    • Provide technical support and coaching during initial months of greenhouse operationalization.
    • Assist beneficiaries in identifying and resolving basic technical issues during follow-up visits.
    • Work with the Logistics & Field Coordinator to organize venues, materials, and equipment for training sessions.
    • Ensure culturally appropriate and safe environments for training delivery to women.
    • Maintain and submit detailed attendance records, informed consent photos, and training session reports.
    • Support pre- and post-training assessments to evaluate learning and skills gained.
    • Document field challenges, solutions provided, and lessons learned.
    • Ensure the safe use of tools and equipment during practical sessions.
    • Uphold safeguarding and do-no-harm principles in all interactions with women beneficiaries.

Job Requirements:

Qualifications and Experience:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering, Solar Energy Engineering, or a closely related engineering field.
    • Minimum 5 year of practical experience in installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting solar-powered systems, including irrigation systems and solar lighting.
    • Demonstrated experience in community-based training and capacity building, preferably with women or community groups.
    • Prior work experience in Kandahar and Helmand provinces is an asset.
    • Expertise in solar energy systems (panels, batteries, controllers, inverters, pumps).
    • Knowledge of electrical safety protocols and preventive maintenance procedures.
