About MEDAIR:
Medair is an international humanitarian organization established in 1988. Medair has been operating in Afghanistan since 1996 with programs mainly in the Health, Water & Sanitation, and Livelihoods sectors with significant reconstruction activities in remote areas. Current projects are Water & Sanitation, Food Security, & Disaster Risk Reduction.
An Integrated Emergency Response: Medair aims to respond to high levels of food insecurity, malnutrition, and morbidity in Tirinkot district. The project intends to improve and extend WASH services including water supply infrastructure and hygiene practices to improve outcomes for vulnerable families.
An Integrated Emergency Response: Medair aims to respond to high levels of food insecurity, malnutrition, and morbidity in Uruzgan, which has been significantly affected by drought and conflict conditions. Building upon Medair’s decades of experience in the Central Highlands and Kandahar, the project intends to improve and extend the utilization of lifesaving preventive and curative nutrition and health services by mothers, PLWs, and children U5; to increase access to clean water, to reduce vulnerability to water-related and other preventable diseases, and to improve and increase food security for the most vulnerable families through food voucher distributions.
Job Description:
Overall Purpose:
To be a member of Health and Nutrition team and provide integrated Health and Nutrition services to targeted communities. The Nurse is responsible for triaging of male patients in the waiting area, providing health education, crowd control for adult male patients, providing first aid, counselling and support the male medical doctor in providing general nursing care and support during minor procedures at the facility. He will ensure communicable disease mitigation measures are followed in waiting areas. The Nurse will help ensure organise and timely patient flow at the BHC, support the health team set up static site each day, data entry where required and support nursing staff in providing health, hygiene male patients.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- To work as part of health and nutrition team covering assigned BHC sites.
- To provide triage to adult male patients as per the national guidelines and procedures.
- Provide general nursing care to male patients where required.
- To ensure accurate record keeping of all activities, following the provided data collection templates.
- To ensure patient flow and static clinic set up, including safe storage and handling of the HN stock.
- Any other activities not listed in the JD but requested by line manager.
Technical:
- Organise the waiting area, and patient flow in the clinic.
- Triaging of male adult patients and ensuring COVID-19 and other communicable disease mitigation measures are followed in waiting areas.
- Providing health education, nutrition and hygiene promotion messages to adult male patients in waiting area, in accordance with agreed messages.
- Provide nursing care to male patients as directed by the medical doctor.
- Support in disease surveillance at the clinics.
- Ensuring all arrangement and set up of septic procedures and nursing sets.
- Drugs request, proper medicine arrangement in the nursing room as per the required standards.
- Support in arranging for referrals, recording referrals and follow up.
- Display of approved IEC/Posters at the waiting areas.
- Providing counselling to adult patients when required.
- Any other technical activities not listed in the JD but requested by the line manager.
- Carry out assessments to identify mental health and psychosocial support needs in the communities in which Medair operates and recommend suitable interventions based on assessment outcomes.
- Administer medication and review effects of medication.
- Provision of psychoeducation and awareness sessions to increase understanding about MH and reduce stigma of mental health conditions within communities.
- Provide individual lay counselling sessions for health and nutrition beneficiaries referred through BHC or community HN activities, following agreed curriculum.
- Educate beneficiaries about stress, anxiety, depression and maternal mental health issues, etc., at the.
- clinic during individual sessions and in waiting room and through group sessions in the community.
- Provide screening of each beneficiary with validated screening scales (WHO-5 tool).
- Measure improvement in coping and well-being of beneficiaries by using validated screening scales.
- Develop referral pathway and refer patients with complex mental health conditions within the BHC and to appropriate care facilities as needed.
- Support and train CHNVs on Active Case Findings and follow Ups. Lead in Mass MUAC activities.
Quality Management:
- Ensure adherence to the provided protocols and guidelines.
- Ensure accurate record keeping of screening, confidentiality, triage, filling in forms, cards, registration books and tally sheets as required.
- Compile reports as required and share.
- Ensure anthropometric equipment is handled carefully and regularly checked for accuracy.
Logistics:
- Set up BHC/male OPD consultation according to site plan, including clinical stations, furniture’s, medical management, handwashing facilities and waste management. ·
- Ensure safe storage and handling of all food products, medicines and medical material and equipment.
- Assist the Medical doctor and facility staff in preparing stock.
Additional duties:
- Prepare and give trainings as asked by Medair.
- Perform any other duties not listed in the JD but requested by the line manager.
Job Requirements:
Education: 2 Years Diploma in nursing is required. Bachelors or Master’s Degree Preferred.
Relevant experience: Total 3 years relevant post graduate experience Required. Disease surveillances, nursing, management of common illnesses, HMIS, drugs management is desirable.
Languages: Fluent written and spoken Pashto is essential and understating of English language is desirable.
