Job Description:

The Project Manager will be responsible for leading, coordinating, and overseeing the implementation of WEARO’s project activities in Kabul, Khost, and Zabul provinces. This role entails ensuring that all project components are executed effectively, on time, and in accordance with donor requirements and organizational standards. The Project Manager will supervise project teams, manage budgets and work plans, monitor progress, and maintain strong coordination with UNDP, government authorities, and community stakeholders. The position requires strong leadership, strategic planning, and technical expertise to ensure the successful delivery of project outcomes that contribute to sustainable community development, livelihoods improvement, and climate resilience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee all phases of project implementation, ensuring alignment with WEARO’s strategic objectives and donor requirements.
  • Develop detailed work plans, budgets, and monitoring frameworks in coordination with the Program Director and relevant partners.
  • Supervise and mentor project staff across Kabul, Khost, and Zabul, ensuring effective performance, coordination, and accountability.
  • Facilitate field missions, community consultations, and capacity-building sessions to ensure participatory and inclusive implementation.
  • Ensure robust monitoring, evaluation, and reporting systems, producing timely, high-quality progress and donor reports.
  • Coordinate with government authorities, community-based organizations, and partner agencies to ensure synergy and compliance with environmental and social safeguards.
  • Promote gender-responsive and climate-resilient approaches across all project interventions.
  • Identify and mitigate project risks, addressing implementation challenges proactively.
  • Contribute to communication, visibility, and knowledge-sharing initiatives to highlight project outcomes and lessons learned.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Rural Development, Environmental Science, Economics, Agriculture, or a related field.
  • Minimum of three years of project management experience in livelihoods, watershed management, natural resource management, infrastructure, or agriculture-related development projects in Afghanistan.
  • Proven understanding of Afghanistan’s local socio-political dynamics and experience with income-generation and community resilience initiatives.
  • Prior experience implementing UNDP or other UN-funded projects is highly desirable.
  • Strong leadership, coordination, and team management skills.
  • Excellent communication, report writing, and stakeholder engagement abilities.
  • Fluency in Pashto and Dari (spoken and written) and proficiency in English (oral and written).
