Job Description:
The Deputy Regional Director supports the Regional Director in the effective management, coordination, and oversight of programs and operations within the region. The position plays a key role in ensuring smooth day-to-day operations, maintaining program quality, strengthening coordination across teams, and acting on behalf of the Regional Director when delegated. The Deputy Regional Director serves as a bridge between strategic leadership and field-level implementation.
Duties and Responsibilities:

Support the Regional Director in planning, implementing, and monitoring regional programs and projects.

Coordinate closely with program managers, provincial teams, and technical staff to ensure timely and quality implementation.

Track progress against work plans, targets, and indicators, and flag delays or risks early.

Support the integration of cross-cutting issues including gender, protection, PSEA, and accountability to affected populations.

Assist in overseeing daily regional operations to ensure efficiency, compliance, and coordination.

Support the implementation of organizational policies, procedures, and donor requirements.

Follow up on action points from monthly meetings, audits, monitoring visits, and management reviews.

Support the Regional Director in ensuring effective monitoring and evaluation systems are in place.

Review program data and field reports for accuracy, completeness, and timeliness.

Contribute to internal and donor reports, situation updates, and management briefs.

Support learning and adaptive programming by documenting lessons learned and good practices.

Support budget tracking and expenditure monitoring at the regional level.

Review financial reports in coordination with finance staff and raise concerns to the Regional Director.

Ensure procurement, logistics, and asset management processes follow KRO and donor procedures.

Support corrective actions related to compliance or audit findings.

Support supervision of regional and provincial staff as delegated by the Regional Director.

Assist in staff onboarding, mentoring, and performance management processes.

Help identify capacity gaps and support the organization of trainings and coaching initiatives.

Promote a positive, respectful, and professional working environment.

Represent KRO in coordination meetings, clusters, and local forums when delegated.

Support engagement with government authorities, community leaders, and partner organizations.

Assist in strengthening partnerships and coordination with NGOs, UN agencies, and cother IPs.

Act as Regional Director in the absence of the Regional Director, as officially delegated.

Ensure continuity of operations and decision-making during delegated periods.
Job Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Management, Economics, Agriculture, or a related field. A master’s degree is an asset.

Minimum 5 years of relevant experience, including 2 years in a coordination or supervisory role, preferably with NGOs.

Practical experience in program implementation, coordination, and reporting.

Basic understanding of project cycle management, M&E, and donor compliance.

Strong coordination, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

Excellent communication skills with fluency in Pashto and English; Dari is an asset.

Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
-
High level of integrity, professionalism, and ability to work under pressure.

Willingness to travel within Kandahar province and act on delegated responsibilities.
