Job Description:
1. Position Summary
The Field Monitor will support the effective implementation, monitoring, and reporting of activities under the Women Empowerment Hubs (WEHs) in Kandahar Province. The role involves direct field visits, data collection, beneficiary verification, activity monitoring, documenting progress, ensuring adherence to project standards, and providing timely feedback to the MEAL Officer and Project Manager. The Field Monitor ensures that project activities are carried out in accordance with UN Women and OHA guidelines, principles, and community engagement standards.
2. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct regular field visits to the two WEHs to monitor project activities, training sessions, community engagement initiatives, and service delivery.
- Track and verify beneficiary participation, attendance, and eligibility in accordance with project criteria.
- Ensure that all activities adhere to UN protection principles.
- Monitor the condition, functionality, and use of WEH facilities, equipment, and materials.
- Identify challenges, gaps, or delays in field activities and report them promptly to the MEAL Officer/Project Manager.
- Support the quality implementation of livelihood, capacity-building, psychosocial support, and women empowerment activities.
- Collect quantitative and qualitative data through surveys, interviews, FGDs, observation checklists, monitoring forms, and digital tools.
- Maintain accurate and timely records of field visits, activity reports, attendance forms, and beneficiary data.
- Assist the MEAL team in conducting baseline, midline, and endline assessments.
- Document success stories, lessons learned, and case studies showcasing women’s empowerment results.
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly monitoring reports and submit them on time.
- Work closely with WEH staff, trainers, community shuras, elders, and women participants to support smooth operations.
- Facilitate communication between project staff, beneficiaries, and local stakeholders.
- Support safe and culturally appropriate engagement with women and girls in the target communities.
- Help coordinate community awareness events, skill development trainings, and outreach activities.
- Ensure all activities comply with UN Women’s guidelines, including protection, and safeguarding standards.
- Promote and uphold OHA’s accountability mechanisms, including handling of complaints and feedback at the community level.
- Immediately report any safeguarding concerns or incidents according to OHA procedures.
- Ensure that all project materials and resources are used responsibly and transparently.
Job Requirements:
Required Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Development Studies, Gender Studies, Business Administration, or related field (preferred).
- High school diploma with relevant experience may be considered.
Experience
- Minimum 2–3 years of experience in field monitoring, community mobilization, MEAL, or project implementation in humanitarian/development programs.
- Experience working on women's empowerment, gender equality, protection, or livelihood projects is an asset.
- Previous experience with UN agencies, INGOs, or NGOs is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with Kandahar context and ability to work respectfully within cultural norms.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong monitoring, observation, and reporting skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with women, community members, and local stakeholders.
- Basic skills in data collection tools (paper forms, Excel, Kobo, ODK, etc.).
- Good analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work independently and travel frequently to field sites.
- Strong ethics, integrity, and commitment to safeguarding.
- Fluency in Pashto; Dari is an advantage; basic English is preferred.
