Job Description:

The Babysitter is responsible for providing safe, attentive, and developmentally appropriate care to young children at the WEH childcare space, allowing women participants to attend trainings and services without concern for their children’s safety and well-being.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Childcare and Supervision

  • Provide continuous supervision and care to children during WEH operating hours.
  • Ensure children’s safety, hygiene, and well-being at all times.
  • Create a welcoming, calm, and child-friendly environment.
  • Support age-appropriate play, learning, and recreational activities.
  • Comfort children who are distressed and respond appropriately to their needs.

Health, Safety, and Hygiene

  • Maintain cleanliness of the childcare space, toys, and materials.
  • Ensure handwashing and basic hygiene practices for children.
  • Immediately report any illness, injury, or safety concern to the WEH Supervisor.
  • Follow OHA and UN Women safeguarding, child protection, and PSEA policies at all times.

Coordination and Reporting

  • Coordinate daily with the WEH Supervisor and other hub staff.
  • Keep simple attendance records of children using the childcare service.
  • Inform mothers/caregivers of any relevant issues concerning their children.

Safeguarding and Conduct

  • Treat all children with respect, care, and dignity, without discrimination.
  • Strictly adhere to OHA’s Code of Conduct, Child Safeguarding Policy, and PSEA principles.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all children and families using the WEH services.

Job Requirements:

Education

  • Basic literacy required; completion of secondary education is an advantage.

Experience

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in childcare, babysitting, or caring for young children (formal or informal).
  • Experience working in community centers, kindergartens, or women-focused programs is an asset.

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong ability to care for children in a patient, calm, and responsible manner.
  • Good understanding of child safety and basic child development.
  • Ability to work in a team and follow instructions from supervisors.
  • Trustworthy, respectful, and culturally sensitive.

Language Requirements

  • Fluency in Pashto is required.
  • Knowledge of Dari is an asset.

Gender and Safeguarding Considerations

  • This position is female-only, due to cultural considerations and the nature of the role within women-only spaces.
  • Zero tolerance for sexual exploitation and abuse (SEA). Any violation will result in immediate disciplinary action, including termination.

Working Conditions

  • Work will be based at the Women Empowerment Hub(s) during official operating hours.
  • Interaction will be primarily with women participants and their children.
