About Afghan Youth Education & Health Organization:
Afghan Youth Education and Health Organization known as (AYEHO) is an independent, non- profitable, nonpartisan and non-governmental organization registered with the Ministry of Economy, Government of Afghanistan. AYEHO provides support to youth and children who work on the streets, orphans, and children in conflict with law, children with disabilities and their families in Afghanistan.
AYEHO established in 2018, headquartered in Kabul with two provincial offices and properly structured and active business and operational set ups in all 34 provinces of the country, has arguably served the most marginalized and vulnerable children, youth and families in the most disadvantaged and remote areas of the country. Besides this AYEHO is well-known and established Afghan NGO in delivering professional and technical assistance and training and development services to targeted audience in Afghanistan, at central, provincial and district levels, in all the leading development and governance sectors of the country.
AYEHO has been working for community empowerment at the grassroots level for many years. The emergence of AYEHO was based on the goals of securing the rights of most deprived and vulnerable communities through promotion of child rights and women rights. Enhancing access to basic health services, quality primary education and socioeconomic development facilities are among the integral parts of AYEHO. Based on these goals, the AYEHO mission is to empower and improve the quality of life of marginalized and vulnerable communities in less developed parts of the country. This mission is to be accomplished by launching sustainable and replicable projects as well as building partnerships. By utilizing valuable skills and resources such as participatory research, development, knowledge management, and advocacy, that will tangibly bring about change into the lives of women and children.
Project Context
Under the UNICEF-funded EiE and Resilience Building in CR project, AYEHO is implementing an integrated Community-Based School (CBS) model across Ghazni, Parwan, Daykundi, Paktya, and Paktika. The project includes:
- 85 functional TLS Temporary learning spaces
- Training of 30 CBS teachers in EiE pedagogy, psychosocial support, and inclusive education, effective teaching and learning methodologies etc.
- Construction of 30 new classrooms (10 CBS centers – 5 in Daikundi, 5 in Paktika)
- AAP, PSEA, and gender-responsive safeguarding compliance
The Teacher Trainer will focus exclusively on teacher capacity development, mentoring, and quality assurance for all CBS teachers across Paktika and Daikundi. Construction oversight is not part of this role.
Job Description:
The Teacher Trainer is responsible for designing, delivering, and monitoring all teacher training and professional development activities under the UNICEF CBS project. This includes training the CBS teachers, classroom observation and mentoring, development of training modules, and ensuring that all CBS teachers meet UNICEF standards for EiE pedagogy, psychosocial support, inclusive education, and safeguarding.
The Teacher Trainer will work in close coordination with the Program Manager, District Education Officers, and CBS Management Committees.
Duties and Responsibilities
A. Training Design and Delivery
- Conduct training needs assessments for all CBS teachers across Paktika and Daikundi provinces, disaggregated by gender and experience level.
- Develop, adapt, and finalize training manuals and modules covering: multi-grade pedagogy, psychosocial support for children, inclusive education for children with disabilities, and child protection mechanisms.
- Deliver pre-service training (10 days) for all newly recruited CBS teachers as per the CBE Teacher Recruitment and Management Guideline.
- Design and implement pre-test and post-test assessments for all training events to measure learning outcomes and training effectiveness.
- Ensure all training content integrates PSEA, child safeguarding, AAP, ESS and GRM awareness as mandatory modules.
B. Mentoring, Coaching, and Classroom Support
- Conduct regular classroom observation visits to each CBS teacher at least once per month using the standardized AYEHO classroom observation framework.
- Provide written and verbal feedback to each teacher following classroom observations, documenting areas of strength and required improvement.
- Deliver on-site coaching and mentoring to teachers identified as requiring performance improvement, before referral to formal performance improvement process.
- Support teachers in developing lesson plans, student assessment records, attendance registers, and learning portfolios aligned with MoE curriculum and CBS requirements.
- Support teachers in applying inclusive teaching strategies especially for girls, and children with disabilities.
C. Coordination and Reporting
- Coordinate training schedules and teacher support plans with Program Manager, District Education Officers, and Social Mobilizers.
- Participate in monthly coordination meetings with UNICEF, Provincial Education Department, and other EiE partners as requested.
- Submit monthly training reports to the Program Manager, including: number of teachers trained, pre/post-test results, classroom observation summaries, and identified performance gaps.
- Maintain a teacher professional development database tracking each teacher’s training history, observation scores, and progress.
- Identify and report any safeguarding concerns, PSEA incidents, or child protection issues observed during training or classroom visits through the established AYEHO and donor GRM channels
D. Professional Development and Quality Assurance
- Develop a Continuous Professional Development plan for each teacher based on annual appraisal results and classroom observation data.
- Participate in training-of-trainers (TOT) sessions delivered by UNICEF or other technical partners to stay updated on EiE best practices.
- Contribute to the development of teacher appraisal rubrics and performance improvement plans as outlined in the CBE Teacher Recruitment and Management Guideline.
- Perform any other tasks assigned by the Program Manager consistent with the scope of teacher capacity building.
Job Requirements:
- Have University degree in education, literature or related field
- Have enough ability in report writing and analytical skills
- Have 5 years’ working experience in school teaching, capacity building, trainings and supervisions
- Have ability to flexibly accomplish the tasks in the given time frame
- Should have enough methodological knowledge to meaningfully deliver the skills and information to teachers
- Must have the ability to develop training plans, attendance sheet and other needed documentation.
- Has enough skills in constructively delivering the information and skills to the teachers
- Fluent in local language (required). Working knowledge of English (report writing, email communication) required.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for training materials and reporting.
- Demonstrated experience in Community-Based Education or EiE settings is highly desirable.
- Be a tolerant person and successfully deal with probably high volume of different sessions
- Have enough ability in planning, conducting trainings for teachers in pressure situations
- Must sign and adhere to AYEHO Code of Conduct, Child Safeguarding Policy, and PSEA Declaration.
Willingness to travel regularly to remote CBS sites within Paktika and Daikundi provinces.
