POSITION OVERVIEW
The Female Psychosocial Counsellor will provide structured, confidential, and survivor-centered psychosocial support services to women and girls experiencing psychological distress, social challenges, emotional difficulties, or requiring supportive counselling.
The role includes provision of one-to-one counselling, group counselling sessions, psychological first aid, referrals, awareness raising, and coordination with health and protection service providers.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
A. Individual Psychosocial Counselling
• Conduct confidential one-to-one psychosocial counselling sessions.
• Deliver Psychological First Aid (PFA) where appropriate.
• Conduct basic psychosocial assessments and identify support needs.
• Develop individualized support plans where required.
• Maintain a survivor-centered and strengths-based approach.
B. Helpline Services
· Provide immediate support and counselling to individuals via the helpline, ensuring empathy and trust with anonymous callers.
· Make appropriate referrals to specialized services when needed.
· Provide psychoeducation on mental health issues, coping mechanisms, and available resources.
· Manage crisis situations and coordinate with emergency services when necessary.
· Collaborate with other counsellors and professionals to ensure comprehensive care.
· Maintain accurate and confidential helpline records and contribute to quality assurance and continuous improvement.
C. Group Counselling and Community Support
• Plan and facilitate structured group counselling sessions.
• Support peer engagement and emotional resilience activities.
• Facilitate psychoeducation and coping skills sessions.
• Promote positive social support mechanisms.
D. Referral and Case Coordination
• Identify beneficiaries requiring specialized services.
• Facilitate referrals in accordance with referral pathways.
• Coordinate with health providers and service partners.\
• Conduct follow-up when appropriate.
E. Awareness Raising and Outreach
Deliver awareness sessions on:
• psychosocial well-being
• stress management
• emotional coping strategies
• family well-being
• reproductive and mental health linkages
• Support preparation of awareness materials.
F. Documentation and Reporting
• Maintain confidential counselling records.
• Complete case documentation and service registers.
• Support indicator tracking and reporting.
• Ensure timely submission of reports.
G. Volunteer Mentorship and Capacity Building
• Provide day-to-day support to project volunteers.
• Mentor volunteers supporting group sessions.
• Strengthen volunteer understanding of ethical practice and confidentiality.
H. Safeguarding and Ethical Practice
• Ensure informed consent and confidentiality.
• Follow safeguarding and PSEA procedures.
• Report safeguarding concerns through approved mechanisms.
• Maintain professional boundaries and ethical conduct.
