Job Description:

Overview:
Jhpiego is supporting the Government of Afghanistan to treat patients that are severely ill with COVID-
19. A significant area of focus of our work is accelerating and strengthening the technical and
operational capacity of local healthcare workers to provide complex care for severely ill COVID-19
patients. In COVID-19 response, Nurses work as part of a team of professional and medical staff
that includes doctors, midwives and biomedical engineers. Jhpiego is seeking nurses as clinical
support coordinators to provide technical guidance and support for several newly awarded
COVID-19 projects.
The Clinical Support Coordinators (Nurse) will be responsible for ensuring technical and
operational rigor in the planning and scaled execution of COVID-19 response projects being
implemented at the national, regional, and facility level. This includes assisting the clinical
response to COVID 19 in treatment centers and improving coordination and communication
amongst frontline health workers impacted and engaged in five provinces (Balkh, Kabul, Herat,
Kandahar and Nangarhar). Additionally, liaising with Government of Afghanistan staff, other
partners and donors regarding technical strategy, monitoring and evaluation of project
milestones and targets.


Responsibilities:
 Provide direct, individual clinical supervision for clinical staff working with COVID-19
patients.
 Facilitate RISE planned topics training sessions based on project plan and clinical staff
need
 Provide onsite support to ICU and general ward staff to provide instant medical care and
manage critical patients in emergency conditions and ICUs
 Facilitate RISE training based on project plan and clinical staff need
 Co-ordinate RISE project activities with targeted hospitals management
 Support Medical Specialist in facilitation of Intubation training
 Provide onsite training for clinical staff about use of ventilators
 Conduct training needs assessments (TNA) in targeted health facilities and identify
training needs and makes recommendations for clinical care specialist for developing
strategies to meet these needs.

 Collect and compile all required data from targeted health facilities and share with MEL
department
 Keep and document project necessary report and data properly
 Coordinate with bio medical engineers for maintenance of donated ventilators and
other equipment regularly based on need
 Other duties or tasks assigned by supervisor.

 

Job Requirements:

Required Qualifications:
 Valid nursing license;
 5 or more years of relevant work experience in Afghanistan
 Experience with complex respiratory care and ICU management.
 Experience of working in COVID-19 HFs is an advantage
 Participation in national nursing capacity building trainings
 Proven experience as a registered nurse
 Excellent knowledge of nursing care methods and procedures
 Excellent knowledge of emergency care and ICU
Required Abilities/Skills:
 Familiarity with Afghanistan health systems
 Demonstrated ability in working and collaborating with a wide range of local and
international partner organizations
 Excellent skills in nursing level decision making, facilitation, team building and
coordination
 Excellent writing and communications skills
 Ability to work in a complex environment with multiple tasks, short deadlines and
intense pressure to perform
 Ability and willingness to travel frequently to implementation regions and health
facilities including COVID-19 treatment centers
 Assessing and planning nursing care requirements
 Foster a supportive and compassionate environment to care for patients and their
families
 A team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
 Outstanding organizational and multi-tasking skills
 Patient with excellent problem-solving skills
