Job Description:
Main responsibilities:
- Develop a comprehensive training plan for both project staff and community beneficiaries based on project objectives.
- Design and adapt training manuals, toolkits, and visual learning materials on flood forecasting, early warning systems, and disaster preparedness.
- Ensure that all materials are gender-responsive, culturally appropriate, and accessible to participants with varying literacy levels.
- Coordinate with technical and M&E teams to identify training needs and integrate lessons from vulnerability assessments and community consultations.
- Organize and deliver capacity-building sessions for project staff on training facilitation, community engagement, data collection, and EWS operations.
- Conduct refresher trainings and learning exchanges to enhance staff understanding of the CBFEWS approach and related community mobilization practices.
- Provide technical mentoring and coaching to trainers and field facilitators to ensure consistent training quality.
- Support internal knowledge-sharing, including peer learning sessions, after-action reviews, and documentation of lessons learned.
- Lead the training of community on the operation and maintenance of forecasting equipment.
- Facilitate training sessions for women and youth on flood forecasting, early warning response, and community resilience building.
- Support the formation of peer learning circles and local EWS networks to sustain community engagement.
- Organize EWS drills and simulation exercises in collaboration with technical and community teams to test knowledge application and readiness.
- Oversee social awareness campaigns related to flood preparedness and early warning, ensuring alignment with training objectives.
- Develop and apply pre- and post-training evaluations to measure knowledge gain and skill improvement among participants.
- Maintain training attendance, gender, and performance data for all participants.
- Document success stories, case studies, and best practices emerging from training activities.
- Prepare and submit periodic training progress and impact reports to the Project Manager.
- Support the M&E team in assessing training effectiveness and behavioral change outcomes.
- Work closely with project engineers, GIS specialists, and field officers to ensure technical accuracy in training content.
- Coordinate with local authorities, DRR committees, and partner organizations to align training activities with regional and national DRR frameworks.
- Liaise with UNDP and donor representatives for review and approval of training tools, materials, and reports where required.
Job Requirements:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Disaster Risk Reduction, Engineering, Education, Environmental Science, or related field.
- Master’s degree preferred.
Experience:
- Minimum 2 years of experience in designing, implementing, and managing training programs in DRR, EWS, or community-based development projects.
- Proven record of training both staff and community groups, especially women and youth, in humanitarian or development contexts.
- Experience in curriculum design, participatory learning, and adult education methodologies.
- Familiarity with UNDP or donor-funded project requirements is an advantage.
Skills and Competencies:
- Strong facilitation and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to develop visual, participatory, and context-sensitive training materials.
- Excellent organizational and coordination abilities.
- Ability to monitor, evaluate, and report on training effectiveness.
- Fluency in Pashto and Dari, with working knowledge of English.
- Willingness to travel frequently to field sites.
