About the Company
Medair is an international humanitarian organization established in 1988. Medair has been operating in Afghanistan since 1996 with programs mainly in the Health, Water & Sanitation, and Livelihoods sectors with significant reconstruction activities in remote areas. Current projects are Water & Sanitation, Food Security, & Disaster Risk Reduction.
An Integrated Emergency Response: Medair aims to respond to high levels of food insecurity, malnutrition, and morbidity in Tirinkot district. The project intends to improve and extend WASH services including water supply infrastructure and hygiene practices to improve outcomes for vulnerable families.
An Integrated Emergency Response: Medair aims to respond to high levels of food insecurity, malnutrition, and morbidity in Uruzgan, which has been significantly affected by drought and conflict conditions. Building upon Medair’s decades of experience in the Central Highlands and Kandahar, the project intends to improve and extend the utilization of lifesaving preventive and curative nutrition and health services by mothers, PLWs, and children U5; to increase access to clean water, to reduce vulnerability to water-related and other preventable diseases, and to improve and increase food security for the most vulnerable families through food voucher distributions.
Job Summary
Overall Purpose: Responsible for day to day running of the support functions of the BHC’s in Gizab district.
Be the Security Focal point for Medair in Gizab district.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Technical responsibilities
- To set up and oversee all support functions in the designated Medair BHC’s.
- Manage the BHC procurement according to procedures.
- Foster clear communication and good relationships with local government providing relevant information to the sector supervisors.
- Monitor security in the project district and ensure all Security SOPs are adhered to.
General responsibilities
- Immediate notification of any suspicion of fraudulent activity amongst staff and external links.
- Adherence to Medair values and to contribute to the wellbeing of the team as an active member.
- Adherence to Afghan NGO Law and Tax Law.
- Adherence to all NRS Regulations and Security Standard Operating Procedures and maintaining confidentiality at all times.
MAIN ACTIVITIES
Logistics
- Coordinate between support logistics team and field project team to ensure the stock levels are kept up to date.
- Procure items as needed in the local market.
- Follow procurement procedures and logistics procedures for all project purchases.
- Line manages the drivers and ensure fleet procedures are being followed (incl. logbook, daily vehicle checks)
- Equipment management for all field office equipment and to have an accurate asset list.
Facility management
- Monitor the staff movements and adjust the facility needs accordingly.
- Making sure the facility rent is paid to the landlord on time.
- Ensure the quality and hygiene of the food is good and healthy.
HR and Financial management
- Forecast the cash needs and raise PDFs accordingly.
- Ensure financial procedures are followed for BHC procurements.
- Ensure all financial accountability is completed in a timely and correct manner.
- Act as focal point for HR related matters in the field location.
Coordination
- Liaise and build positive relationships with local authorities in the field and the communities.
- Participate in local general coordination meetings and inform the sector supervisors where relevant.
- Security focal point of field location. Report any security concerns to Project Coordinator and taken action when required to keep the team safe.
- Participate constructively in team meetings.
- Provide regular report to and coordinate support related activities with PSM.
Job Requirements
Education: Minimum 2 years Diploma relevant to the position is required. Bachelor's and Master’s degree preferred.
Relevant experience: At least 2 years experience in similar support role and experience of writting reports in English is required. Experience with NGOs, Experience carrying out trainings is desirable.
Languages: Excellent English, Pashtu, and Dari Language skills (written and oral) is required and will be tested in the interview.
Computer: Good working skills with Microsoft Office is required and knowledge of using GPS and Thuraya is desirable.
Organizational capacity: Ability to prioritise and multi-task.
