SCI - Afghanistan

We are helping children get a better education, we make it possible for more boys and girls to attend school, we help children protect themselves and influence their own conditions. We work with families, communities and health workers in homes, clinics and hospitals to promote basic health in order to save lives of children and mothers
The Child Protection Senior Officer is responsible for coordinating and managing AHF project which is going to be implemented in Kandahar Province. And s/he is responsible to establish and maintain a good relation with all stakeholders in targeted province and its districts, overseeing implementation of Child Protection activities and service provision for vulnerable and at-risk children, adolescents and families.
Day to day management of the project, including high quality and timely activity implementation, in full coordination of SCI - CP coordinator at the province level.
Lead the team and provide technical support in conducting trainings, workshops and meetings.
Provide technical follow up and monitoring to all training and workshops conducted to ensure the sustainability and impacts of the activities.
Adapt and develop child friendly tools and training materials suitable for local context in key skill areas relating to child rights, protection, case management and child participation.
Develop new training modules and manuals on child rights issues, CPiE, PFA, positive discipline in everyday parenting, safe identification and referrals.
Ensure training for all Save the Children staff on Child Protection and child safeguarding policy, the Code of Conduct is implemented, and that staff complete all mandatory trainings on time.
Compile and generate the training reports conducted in province.
Regular coordination across SC programs and thematic areas, ensuring high level of integration and collaboration when need and where possible.
Assist in translation of key training material which currently in English into Pashtu/Dari (e.g. child rights, case management CPiE, PFA and positive discipline in everyday parenting)
Work closely with Save the Children program teams, including other sectors, to adapt or develop applicable materials on child rights, child protection, participation, health & nutrition, education, case management, environmental protection, PFA, PSS, Positive Discipline in everyday Parenting and etc. that are suitable for the local context and culture.
Document, evaluate and share experiences and lessons learnt for purposes of institutional learning.
Coordinate closely with all project stakeholders and present the up to date project progress to them.
Ensuring high quality service are provided through case management and other project activities in targeted communities.
Working with project team to provide PSS support to the effected children/population.
Provide consistent supervision, coaching and technical support for staff on case management and facilitation of group sessions, including case conferencing.
Adhere to and report any child safeguarding concerns in accordance with Save the Children’s Child Safeguarding Policy to the relevant CSG focal point.
Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual report of the project.
Any other relevant task assigned by line manager and technical team
Work with senior staff to train new personnel as needed
Monitor and support training efforts undertaken staffs
Support guidance to child protection officers in supervising children’s groups facilitators and child facilitators
Review training needs for all project areas
Arrange for procurement of supplies needed for capacity building activities
Ensure that all projects are equipped with MEAL systems like quality benchmarks, billboards, posters to exhibit MEAL messages for activities
Ensure action plans from quality monitoring and accountability systems are generated and implemented in timely manner collaboration with MEAL team
Report project outputs against M&E Plan
Ensure that data and information is available for projects at the field as per the M&E Plan

QUALIFICATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
A relevant bachelor’s degree in education, psychology, social sciences or a closely related field;
At least 5 years’ experience in work focusing on children’s rights and protection issues.
Knowledge of child rights, child protection and child participation and case management or counselling
Proven competence in using participatory/interactive methods in working with children in difficult circumstances;
Good communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills.
Good working knowledge (spoken and written) of English and Pashtu/Dari Language.
Skills in report writing.
Ability to manage a project
Extensive experience as a trainer using participatory methodology.
Experience in undertaking training needs assessment
Experience in developing training materials
Politically and culturally sensitive, awareness of gender issues, with qualities of patience, tact and diplomacy
Ability to work independently and as a member of a team;
A willingness to work as part of a team in a complex and sometimes insecure environment.
A preparedness to work in uncertain security environments.
Computer literate (word processing, spreadsheets, email).
Commitment to the vision, mission and goals of SC.
Commitment to SC Child Protection Policy
Experience in working with an International organization for at least 2 years;
Good sense of humour and flexibility
Experience of translating materials from English to Pashtu and Dari
Experience in MHPSS, child participation and community participation
Familiar with other computer program (Ms. Access, Photoshop etc)
